Monthly Must Haves: May

The month of May is almost over (seriously how did that happen?), and over Memorial Day weekend we’ll be off camping at an SCA event. Before we escape to another time period for a weekend, I wanted to share my favorite finds from this month!

1. Proatien Bowls

My sister-in law Chelsea (who recently launched her fantastic healthy lifestyle vlog, Life with Chels) has been raving about how delicious and easy overnight oat morning bowls are to me for ages now, and I finally decided to give them a try. I was majorly missing out, and I’m now obsessed with eating these in the morning before I head to the gym to lift heavy! There are endless recipe options for how to make these, but here is my favorite so far:

  • 1 Scoop Vanilla Whey Protein
  • 8oz Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • ½ cup Rolled Oats
  • 1 tbsp Almond Butter
  • Coconut Flakes
  • Chopped Banana

Mix protein shake together in a protein shaker and pour into small bowl. Add dry ingredients and mix. Place in refrigerator overnight. Enjoy the next morning before your workout!

2. Marvel Strike Force

I have a confession to make. Even though I work in the game industry and even though my husband makes mobile games for a living, I have never really gotten into mobile gaming. I was so excited and completely disappointed when Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery came out, and was ready to swear off mobile games completely until I stumbled across Marvel Strike Force in my post-Infinity War Marvel fervor. This game is SO fun and does a great job of bringing the superheroes and villians of the Marvel Universe to life. I’ve logged in every day and completed my dailies for the past week and have no plans of stopping, especially since they just launched a new hilarious Deadpool event. Check it out, and comment below if you play! I’m looking for an Alliance to join!

3. Boar Bristle Brush

I recently decided to cut off half of my hair in an effort to manage some healthy regrowth. My lob was great for a month, but after wearing my extensions at the Renaissance Faire I realized how much I missed my long hair. I’m a natural brunette, but a redhead at heart with no intentions of converting back to my raven-haired original form, and unfortunately the regularly use of bleach, dye, and heat tools have severely damaged my once thick and glorious locks. In an effort to repair the damage, I searched the web for recommendations on promote hair growth and decided to try using a boar bristle brush this month and the effect on my hair is noticeable!

Boar Bristle Brushes are said to help condition hair texture and promote hair growth. I have been cursed with natural frizzy and untamable curly hair, which means that I am constantly using hot tools on my hair to style them into something manageable. At night I use my boar bristle brush to reset my hair by brushing it in small sections from scalp to ends. This can be a long process depending on how much hair you have because the bristles are very thick, but I promise it’s worth it! I’ve found that brushing with this tool has helped to improve my hair texture and allowed me to go longer without washing my hair.

4. Silk Hair Wrap

After brushing my hair before bed I wrap it in a silk head wrap, which helps to reduce the impact of tossing and turning on a cotton pillowcase at night. Over the past several weeks of using this I’ve woken up with sleeker bedhead. This has saved me countless hours of hair taming in my already busy mornings, and also helps with split ends and damage!

5. adidas Yola Backpack

I recently added beach yoga and body weight workouts to my fitness routine twice weekly. I’m lucky that I live only 15 minutes away from one of the most beautiful beaches in California: Corona Del Mar. Waking up at 5:30am to trek down to this beautiful view is much easier when I’m organized, and this Adidas Yola Backpack helps me keep my resistance bands and yoga mat ready for me to head out the door.

The bag is made of polyester and is easy to keep clean and sand-free. The straps extend into loops at the bottom of the backpack to evenly distribute the weight of your yoga mat. And if it wasn’t already perfect enough, it also comes in black, mint, teal, and blue color options!
